Fly Tying with Bob Colson
Our Saturday Fly Tyers series continues with Bob Colson. Saturday - November 11th, 2023
Bob Colson has been a university professor, a college dean, a business executive, and a partner in a global accounting network. He retired from his partnership position in July 2010, which provided him with more time to pursue his passion for fly fishing, fly tying and cane rod making.
His venture into fly fishing began in the mid 50’s when we caught his first fish, a bluegill, on a fly he tied on his grandfather’s homemade vise. His first trout was caught using a bamboo rod that allowed him to stay back from the stream bank as to not scare the fish. Some things never change.
While living in Ohio Bob was the proprietor of the Bob Colson Fly Fishing School. His school was supported by the National Parks Service and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. His fly-tying classes reached more than 2,000 participants between 1979 and 1994.
Bob has been an active member of Trout Unlimited and designed and tied the TU’s 25th Anniversary fly. He is a member of The Catskill Fly Tyers Guild and past member of the CFFCM Board and served as the Center’s treasurer.
CFFCM Saturday Tyers Series is made possible in part by funding from the Sullivan County 2023 Legislative Discretionary Contract Program.
