New York City operates the largest municipal water supply system in the United States, including six large reservoirs located in the Catskills. The system provided high-quality drinking water to nearly 10 million people each day, and many of the reservoirs and their tailwaters are considered world-class fisheries.

Two representatives from the New York City Department of Environmental Protection will share information about the water supply, its history, and the work that is done to operate, maintain and protect the reservoir system, which is considered a marvel of modern engineering. They will also discuss an ongoing effort to repair the 85-mile-long Delaware Aqueduct. The Delaware Aqueduct, which is the longest tunnel in the world, will be shut down for approximately six months starting in October 2022 while New York City completes the largest repair project in the 180-year history of the water supply.
